How to Create a UPC Barcode Online
If you already have a valid UPC-A identifier, you can turn it into a printable UPC barcode in a few steps. BarcodeYard generates the barcode symbol from the number you provide; it does not assign official product identifiers.
What do you need to create a UPC barcode?
A standard UPC-A identifier contains 12 digits. The final digit is a check digit used to validate the number. If your business needs an official product identifier, obtain it through the appropriate numbering system before generating the barcode symbol.
How to make a UPC barcode
- Get the valid UPC-A number assigned to your product or workflow.
- Open the UPC-A Barcode Generator.
- Enter the 12-digit UPC-A value.
- Generate the barcode and check that the displayed digits match your source.
- Download PNG, SVG, or PDF, or use the print option.
- Test the printed barcode with the scanner used by your retailer, POS, inventory, or fulfillment workflow.
Can I generate a UPC for free?
Yes. Generating a barcode image is different from obtaining an official product identifier. BarcodeYard can create the machine-readable symbol from a UPC-A number you already have without requiring an account.
UPC barcode vs UPC number
The UPC number is the identifier made up of digits. The UPC barcode is the visual symbol that encodes that identifier so a scanner can read it. A barcode generator converts the identifier into the symbol; it does not make the identifier official.
What if my UPC has fewer than 12 digits?
Do not add arbitrary digits simply to make the value fit. Check the identifier supplied by your product-numbering system and use the correct barcode format. If you have an EAN-13 identifier instead, use the EAN-13 Barcode Generator.
